ACK!
ACK, is a popular little nickname for the gorgeous island of Nantucket. Personally when I hear, “ACK”, the voice of the duck from the Aflac Insurance commercials pops into my head (I may be the only one that thinks that). My trip was filled with endless sunshine, salty hair, and the most decadent and fresh seafood out there.

The Hot Months.
I am not much of a Summer lady. Though, I like the holidays and the time off, the heat and humidity can make me a little grumpy. I find riding my bike, Ruby, and taking photos alleviates my frowns and makes me smirk once more.  Sperryville, Virginia. Pumpkins. Papa Bear. Annapolis, Maryland. Mama Bear. Benny. Scanned Fiber Prints.
The title is direct, even after an effort to ponder up a witty catch phrase. I first learned photography in the darkroom but seemingly drifted into the digital world like many people out there. But as I head back to school, Art School specifically, I find myself right back where I started. It’s been awhile since I used my scanner to scan prints as evident by apparent collection of dust I...

Quaintness.
It’s not your average day to go for an excursion, nevertheless, I drove to two places I’ve been eager to shoot. Historic Occoquan, Virginia and Del Rey, Virginia. Both, quaint and charming in their own ways.  Occoquan, Virginia Occoquan, Virginia Occoquan, Virginia Occoquan, Virginia Occoquan, Virginia Occoquan, Virginia Del Rey, Virginia Del...

Unfamiliarity.
This weekend I set out to work on a film photography project and being b&w film photography isn’t my favorite realm in the art world I brought along my beloved Canon 5D Mark II for comfort. Living in Old Town Alexandria and spending most of my time in Georgetown & Downtown D.C I never really see the beauty from abandoned buildings and the housing of Southeast and Southwest D.C. While...

On a photo scout with friend and photographer, Paul Simkin, where else did we wander but the obvious—the Fish Market on Maine Ave.

Film Studies.
The last I was in a dark room it was 2006 senior year in the Northern state of Montana. The darkroom is now 4 times the size and the use of a hand held light meter is required. Even though I have an affinity for color, the red lights, chemical smell, and projectors were refreshing. (P.S. If you have stitches on your fingers wear multiple layers of gloves because, well, fixer burns).

Nantucket Nectar.
Being from New England I have never spent time in Nantucket but this August I experienced the enchanting isle. The journey quickly became a summery tale I will continue to tell. Instead of my piecing together my wandering thoughts, here’s a visual story of Nantucket.

Howdy Folks! It’s been awhile since I’ve been here on blogland. But, now that I’ve wiped some of the dust off my camera and started school again. Here are some (unedited, I know, straight out of the lens, it’s a new thing for me. I’m getting use to it.).

5 years 5,000 Images.
Last Thursday, April 22, was Critical Exposure’s “5 years 5,000: A Celebration & Retrospective” Exhibition at the Edison Place Gallery. Over 200 people came to enjoy the incredible photograph’s the Critical Exposure students have taken since the organization began. If you missed out, jump into screen, dive into the photos, and imagine you were… ...

Organizing Definition.
As my stay in “Practicum Land” continues, I discover more about the Critical Exposure Gang. A group of student’s from high schools, scattered around the district, assemble together to form S.T.E.P. UP DC. These bright young tadpoles aren’t of the average sort. They convene every Wednesday at the Thurgood Marshall Center to discuss the lingering grim topic of the D.C. Public...

Practicum Land... Not in Georgetown Any More.
Yesterday as I stepped off Metro Yellow Line into China Town, I realized this was it—my graduation practicum had finally begun.  After nearly 8 months of classes, I was in “Practicum Land” where the yellow brick road widens and seemingly looses its canary hue—the path to Oz wasn’t so clear and direct.  I had the heart and passion for Critical Exposure***, I definitely had the brains and knowledge...

Oh, The Cherry Trees.
It’s my first year in the Nation’s capitol city and now the wintery frost  has finally fallen asleep while the flowers are blooming and the birdies are singing in blithe harmony. Among the blossoms are those of the Cherry Tree; DC famously received thousands by Japan in 1912. The blush pedals awaken for approximately two weeks for absolute optical glee. I was nearly disappointed that I...

Jack's Boat House- Opening April 15!
Jack’s Boat House is a historical nook of the Washington, D.C. area. It’s to no surpise why Jack’s is the only surviving privately owned Boat House in the D.C Metropolitan Area. Since WWII it’s been a corral for locals, site-seers, and military folks to fraternize, barbeque, splash through the Potomac, and enjoy tranquility during the warmer months. Paul Simkin is the...
